Frequently Asked Questions

How much damage do I need to have a claim?
Not much actually. Marble size hail can cause a lot of damage if it falls hard and for a long period. Missing and/or cracked shingles indicate wind damage.

My roof/siding is so old they won’t possibly pay enough to replace it, will they?
Most insurance policies are written for replacement cost. Old roofs and siding are just as insured as new roofs and siding. In fact the older your roof and siding are, the more susceptible they are to damage.

Should I call my insurance company before I call a roofing company?
Usually not. In many cases an insurance company will consider it a claim against your policy even if you don’t get a penny. Every time they go out, they count it as a claim. In most cases it is wise to have us take a look at your roof first. We can make sure the roof is eligible for a claim before you call your insurance company. If there is damage, we will also be happy to meet your insurance adjuster and make sure the specifications of your claim are correct.

The way a claim is filed can very often affect the way it is settled. Please call us before you call your insurance company and we will make sure you get started right.

How does the claim payout work?
When your claim is approved, the insurance company issues payment to you and your mortgage company. If your home is paid for, they’ll omit the mortgage company. We accept the initial insurance payment as a deposit for the repairs when the materials have been delivered. We will bill your insurance company for the balance. Your expense is limited to your deductible unless you add upgrades to your job or have non-recoverable depreciation.

My insurance check has my mortgage company on it, what do I do?
Either you or Seaback Roofing will have to contact your mortgage company to have the check endorsed. If you would like us to take care of it, we will FedEx your check overnight to the mortgage company with the proper forms attached.

How long will it take to install the roof?
For most residential roofs, 1-2 days is sufficient. This will vary depending on the size of the home and complexity of the job. We understand the inconvenience of having people you do not know around your house, on your roof and interrupting your regularly scheduled life. We come to each job site with the man power, knowledge, skill, and equipment to complete the job in a timely manner. However, we will never jeopardize our quality craftsmanship to hurry a job along.

Commercial projects do not have an average time frame due to the vast difference in commercial buildings. We will give you an expected time frame for completion before commencement of the project.

Do you use nails or staples?
We install your roof by galvanized nailed application only!

I don’t want my rates to go up. How will filing a claim affect them?
Unfortunately, whether you personally file a claim or not, your rates may be increased slightly due to the number of claims in the area. Insurance companies can’t raise individual rates in the case of a storm like they would with a traffic accident. All increases have to be done by region.

How much ventilation does my roof need?
Proper attic ventilation will extend the life of a roof along with reducing problems as it helps balance or minimize the temperature differential between the air in the attic and the air outside. In other words, proper ventilation will remove moisture and heat from the attic. Please call to have one of our trained representatives come out and determine the optimum ventilation for your home.

Why does Seaback Roofing provide this service for free? What’s the catch?
There is no catch! This is what we do as a professional independent insurance restoration contractor. In return for the professional estimating and damage inspection services all we ask is that you allow us to make the majority of the repairs for the amounts that your insurance company agrees to. The better a job we do inspecting for damage and presenting a professional insurance estimate the larger a repair job we will have earned.

When is the best time to install or repair a roof?
There is no “best time” to put on a roof. Seaback Roofing installs roofs year round. There is no difference in quality, look, or longevity whether the roof is installed in January or July!
